GPS 78SC

Design
Its screen is a 2.6-inch (diagonal) transflective LCD producing 160 x 240 pixels resolution and 65-K color. The overall dimension of the device measures at 2.6-inch W x 6.0-inch H x 1.2-inch D, and it weighs 7.7 oz with batteries installed.
You can use a NiMH or Lithium battery to power up the device, but it is also compatible with AA batteries. Either way, GPSMAP 78SC is able to keep on running for up to 20 hours on a single charge or before the 2 AA batteries need replacement.
Preloaded Maps
The GPSMAP 78SC is preloaded with BluChart g2 that covers the entire U.S. area. Maps for Hawaii, Alaska, and Explorer chart for Bahamas are also included.
Another important feature is the electronic compass complemented by 3-axis tilt compensation. The biggest benefit is that it can show you the proper direction even when you are not moving.
Barometric altimeter is also present to deliver precise information concerning your current altitude based on atmospheric pressure changes.
A 1.7GB of internal memory is planted, and there is even a microSD card slot to expand capacity. It allows you to save Routes and Waypoints, as well as geocaches.
Garmin GPSMAP 78SC can save up to 200 routes and 200 tracks with 10,000 points. You can use the device to project waypoints and reposition them at your current location.
Moreover, this device can communicate wirelessly with other compatible Garmin devices, allowing you to share waypoints, routes, or tracks to other users.
Custom Maps
With a microSD card, you can download and add maps to the 78SC from Custom Maps software. The more common navigational maps such as City Navigator and TOPO mapping are available for download.
Custom Maps can convert any paper-based and electronic maps into downloadable files which you can send to the device. It is also possible to simply insert an already preloaded microSD containing maps to the 78SC.
It means the device has the potential to extend its function to more than just marine GPS. With maps such as City Navigator, it can also guide you through every turn in any city in the U.S.
Geocaching
In addition, Garmin GPSMAP 78SC supports geocaching. GPX files can be downloaded to the unit to store all relevant information about any specific spot including terrain, location, descriptions, hints, and even difficulties.
It is also supported by Garmin Connect where you can share your tracks with the community or view your activities on Google Earth. To access Garmin Connect, you need to connect the device to a computer with a USB cable (included in the package). |
