See the Way

eTrex 10 has an enhanced 2.2" monochrome display that’s easy to read in any lighting situation. Both durable and water resistant, eTrex 10 is built to withstand the elements. Its easy-to-use interface means you’ll spend more time enjoying the outdoors and less time searching for information. eTrex 10 features the legendary toughness that’s built to withstand the elements. Dust, dirt, humidity, water — none are a match for this navigator.

Find Fun
eTrex 10 supports geocaching GPX files for transferring geocaches. Visit OpenCaching to start your geocaching adventure. By going paperless, you're not only helping the environment but also improving efficiency. eTrex 10 stores and displays key information, including location, terrain, difficulty, hints and descriptions, which means no more manually entering coordinates and paper printouts. Simply upload the GPX file to your eTrex 10 and start hunting for caches.

Keep Your Fix

With its high-sensitivity, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver and HotFix® satellite prediction, eTrex 10 locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its GPS location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. Whether you’re in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on eTrex 10 to help you find your way when you need it the most.

Go Global
eTrex devices are the first-ever consumer-grade receivers that can track both GPS and GLONASS satellites simultaneously. When using GLONASS satellites, the time it takes for the receiver to “lock on” to a position is (on average) approximately 20 percent faster than using GPS. And when using both GPS and GLONASS, the receiver has the ability to lock on to 24 more satellites than using GPS alone.

Plan Your Next Trip

Take charge of your next adventure with BaseCamp™, software that lets you view and organize maps, waypoints, routes, and tracks. This free trip-planning software even allows you to create Garmin Adventures that you can share with friends, family or fellow explorers. BaseCamp displays topographic map data in 2-D or 3-D on your computer screen, including contour lines and elevation profiles.

Its screen is a 2.6-inch (diagonal) transflective LCD producing 160 x 240 pixels resolution and 65-K color. The overall dimension of the device measures at 2.6-inch W x 6.0-inch H x 1.2-inch D, and it weighs 7.7 oz with batteries installed.

You can use a NiMH or Lithium battery to power up the device, but it is also compatible with AA batteries. Either way, GPSMAP 78SC is able to keep on running for up to 20 hours on a single charge or before the 2 AA batteries need replacement.

Preloaded Maps

The GPSMAP 78SC is preloaded with BluChart g2 that covers the entire U.S. area. Maps for Hawaii, Alaska, and Explorer chart for Bahamas are also included.

Another important feature is the electronic compass complemented by 3-axis tilt compensation. The biggest benefit is that it can show you the proper direction even when you are not moving.

Barometric altimeter is also present to deliver precise information concerning your current altitude based on atmospheric pressure changes.

A 1.7GB of internal memory is planted, and there is even a microSD card slot to expand capacity. It allows you to save Routes and Waypoints, as well as geocaches.

Garmin GPSMAP 78SC can save up to 200 routes and 200 tracks with 10,000 points. You can use the device to project waypoints and reposition them at your current location.

Moreover, this device can communicate wirelessly with other compatible Garmin devices, allowing you to share waypoints, routes, or tracks to other users.

Custom Maps

With a microSD card, you can download and add maps to the 78SC from Custom Maps software. The more common navigational maps such as City Navigator and TOPO mapping are available for download.

Custom Maps can convert any paper-based and electronic maps into downloadable files which you can send to the device. It is also possible to simply insert an already preloaded microSD containing maps to the 78SC.

It means the device has the potential to extend its function to more than just marine GPS. With maps such as City Navigator, it can also guide you through every turn in any city in the U.S.

In addition, Garmin GPSMAP 78SC supports geocaching. GPX files can be downloaded to the unit to store all relevant information about any specific spot including terrain, location, descriptions, hints, and even difficulties.

It is also supported by Garmin Connect where you can share your tracks with the community or view your activities on Google Earth. To access Garmin Connect, you need to connect the device to a computer with a USB cable (included in the package).
